Andy Goddard – RiverArts
The mission of RiverArts is “to be the place where the Arts meet the community,” and this vibrant community arts center delivers on its promise with dynamic and evolving programming. It fills its four locations in the Historic District— a gallery, a clay studio, an education center and a children’s art studio—with a regular slate of exhibitions, programs, classes and special workshops. And the person in charge of all these vibrant moving parts is executive director Andy Goddard. A Washington College alumna, Goddard previously ran a beloved watering hole and performance space, Andy’s, and she brings a wealth of experience in the arts and event management to her role as Executive Director.
RiverArts hosts annual public events throughout the year, including the “Paint the Town” plein air painting festival and its county-wide studio tour. It fills the gallery every First Friday with hundreds of patrons eager to see that month’s exhibit, and dozens of students, many of them RiverArts members, attend its classes each year. Goddard is proud of the creative energy the organization and its 500 members, four staffers and corps of dedicated volunteers bring to the heart of Chestertown.
“Where else can you spend a creative half hour with your preschooler, browse for a unique piece of jewelry, try your hand at the pottery wheel, and take in a classic film?” she asks.
