Part retail shop, part museum, Chestertown Electric has made a name locally and regionally as the go-to for rare, vintage and historical light and fan fixes and finds. Owner David Hoatson is an electrical engineer with more than 40 years experience in defense electronics. He personally restores and inspects each piece in his shop to ensure it’s as safe or safer than modern electronics.
There are some really interesting pieces in the shop including the first Hunter ceiling fan model from 1895. You can also see an 1897 Dayton ceiling fan obtained from India and a 1920 orbiting British desk fan like what was on the Titanic. There are even several 100+ year old light bulbs that still work.
David’s collection has been amassed over the years from around the world, including pieces from England, Germany, Italy, Asia and South America. When you step inside his shop, he will take you on a tour and can tell you the story of each piece.
Chestertown Electric is located at 324 Cannon Street, and is open Fridays, 5-7 p.m. and Saturdays, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.. Other hours are available by appointment.
