DESCRIPTION:The Common Table: Community\, Companionship and Gathering \nThe concept of the “common table” originates from ancient\, agrarian\, and hunter-gatherer roots\, where sharing food fostered social bonds\, safety\, and community\, breaking bread together away from distractions. \nHistorically\, hosting a meal with a shared table was a display of generosity and prosperity. Cultural differences exist at the Common Table in different countries\, such as the utensils used\, whether you sit at the table or on the floor\, whether dining is expected to be a quiet affair or noisy and bustling. \nHow will you use your creativity to capture the concept of “breaking bread” and the social benefits of a common table? Is there a common table without food? What about the concept of species other than humans sharing a common table; birds on a bird feeder; bees on a blossoming tree; kittens sharing a cat food bowl? \nWe can’t wait to see your creations!

DESCRIPTION:All are welcome at a reception in honor of the opening of this year’s Legacy Day exhibit at the Historical Society. In the spirit of celebrating America’s 250th birthday\, the theme of the exhibit is “Pursuing Freedom: Highlights of 250 Years of African American History in Kent County.” Sixty highlights–some familiar and some not so well-known–are presented as part of a virtual railroad-track timeline from 1776 to the present. DESCRIPTION:The start of a new month is a fantastic excuse to get out and enjoy new art\, wonderful shopping\, little sips of wine here and there\, and dinner out. First Friday is a free event sponsored by Chestertown’s downtown merchants\, community organizations\, and art galleries. This event is held the first Friday of every month and everyone is welcome and encouraged to join us.\n\nOur artists and galleries introduce new shows\, our independent boutiques offer new products and specials\, and our restaurants are ready to welcome you for dinner. Historic Chestertown’s Arts & Entertainment District is fun year-round. In the winter our storefronts are aglow and in the spring and summer our doors are flung open and the fun spills out onto the street!
