This spring, Hegland Glass celebrates 10 years in business and 8 years as fixtures in downtown Chestertown. Leaving behind corporate careers, Dave and Patti Hegland turned their attention to creating contemporary kiln-formed art glass. In the decade since then, they’ve made a name for themselves in the world of modern art glass, having won the prestigious Niche Award in 2013 and are now represented by fine craft galleries across the country.
The Hegland’s attention to detail and experimentation have resulted in a unique style that is all their own. Their intricate designs incorporate hundreds of multi-layered hand-pulled murrine glass. When you visit their shop, you can see a wide variety of their finished works available for purchase as well as works in progress. They’re always happy to talk about their process and what they are working on. For those that are interested in learning more, the Heglands offer entry level workshops through Chestertown RiverArts. Keep an eye on their website for when future dates may be listed.
Dave and Patti say they love being a part of the quintessential Downtown Chestertown experience. They enjoy having friends and neighbors stop by and bring visitors from out of town. They are keenly aware how special the arts community is in downtown Chestertown and appreciate being a part of it.
Hegland Glass is at 315 High Street, Suite 103, in the breezeway by Dunkin Donuts. The shop is open Fridays 11-4, Saturdays 10-4 or by appointment. If you see Patti and Dave in the shop at other times, you’re welcome to stop in then as well.
